I am a really big reader. I literally always have at least one book on the go, carry it everywhere with me. I'm always reading. A few years ago, I worked in a wonderful bookshop, and it was like an Aladdin's cave; there were just books everywhere, as you would imagine. Every wall was just lined brand-new books, proof copies and sneak peeks of things that hadn't even been published yet. And I just loved it.

Anything that got returned by a customer, whether it was damaged or not, always went into the staff book sale. There were always tons of books for us to choose from and they were all 50p each. So obviously, before I left, I stockpiled books, like hundreds of them.

I'm pretty precious about my books to the extent where I don't really like people borrowing them. I know that sounds really mean but... there's a reason. I bought a copy of Real Murders well before the Hallmark films came out, I didn't know what the story was about. I got it in a damaged book sale, and it's got a stamp in it to say it was slightly damaged in transit and being sold at a 'special bargain price'. Because it had the stamp in it, I figured it would be ok to let somebody borrow it. I ranted and raved about the book, I loved it and it became a firm favourite as have the films.

I raved about it so much that people wanted to borrow it so I lent it out and for the most part it was fine. But then I lent it to one particular person who I figured would be the same as me. She seemed like she would be quite precious about books but I was a little bit... wrong.

As soon as I saw it, I think my fave probably said it all. I just stopped dead. It's not so bad now because I have tried to rectify it so it's not as bad but just try and image. The spine is all cracked and bent. Now for most of you, you probably think that's just normal when a book is read but to me that is too much, she might as well have set fire to it. It was so concave it was just not even book-shaped anymore. And there was bent pages. I saw her once bending the pages of a book back over the spine as she was reading and I wanted to rip it out of her hands. God, I'm like a book nazi, aren't I?

She was really lovely otherwise and we're still friends. I know it's not like it's some big flaw but to me it was a big deal

This is a tale of warning. If you are as precious as me about things, do not lend them to people without doing a full background check. Go through all their books and see what they look like. Because if I had a bookshelf of books all mistreated like that, I would be ashamed!

We had a lovely afternoon with our own little VE Day/Bank Holiday celebration.

There were supposed to be proper official celebrations going on in the park but obviously with everything happening right now, they didnt. Some people in our road were having a social distanced street arty but Nick & I weren't feeling particularly social so we didn't join them.

Instead, we bought a bunch of picnic food from our local supermarket - quiche, mini pork pies, cocktail sausages, mini scotch eggs, mini sausage rolls, carrot sticks, sandwiches, cakes, some fizz... I'm not sure how many people we were trying to feed. But we sat/lay on a blanket in our garden, enjoying the sunshine and celebrating our freedom.

And it was lovely. I'm hoping the weather stays nice over the weekend so we can repeat it!

Hello everyone!

I'm Irene and welcome to my shiny new blog.

Despite being called Irene, I'm not actually a little old lady. I'm in my mid-30s. It's a family name and I've' grown to love it, although most people do tend to call me ReeNee which has been a nickname since childhood. I've always been jealous of my little sister's name, Beatrice. She's known as Bee but always wanted to be Trixie; however it never took. Bee and Ree, that's us.

I live in Greater London with my boyfriend Nick and work as an Executive Assistant for the senior leadership team of a medical research facility. I have a BSc in Food Science & Nutrition, and the plan was to be a nutritionist but it turns out I'm really good at organising other people.

I am a huge bookworm, and love cozy mysteries. I'm currently re-reading a favourite series; the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. I also love the Hallmark movie series. And most things Hallmark, to be perfectly honest with you, especially the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. As well as Aurora Teagarden, I love the Garage Sale Mysteries. You can expect a lot of talk about those things here.

I also enjoy cooking, organisation and snuggling up with the boyfriend for a Netflix binge - if we can ever decide what to watch, because we have vastly different tastes. I am a Harry Potter nerd and have cats called Helga and Rowena. I love yoga, mindfulness & meditation. I enjoy writing and receiving letters, jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, wordsearches etc.

I've always wanted to try blogging so here I am!
